WISDOM

God’s wisdom is unique and far beyond our human comprehension! In the Bible, we learn that true wisdom is an attribute of God, called “Chokmah.” The book of Proverbs expresses this through the style in which it is written called wisdom literature. This means it is the accumulated insight of God’s people through generations, about how to live in a way that honors God and others. From a very young age, we discern what we believe is wise. We hear of “modern proverbs” that seem to offer truth, but rarely do. Each week in this series, we will learn what God’s wisdom says about his world, the way we should live, and how to lean into Chokhmah… in contrast to a modern saying of our times. This week, instead of the modern proverb “You do you,” join us in learning that God’s ways are always higher and ought to take precedent over our own ways. When the disciple Peter tells Jesus that he shouldn’t go and die on the cross, he is corrected by Jesus in Caesarea Philippi and shown true wisdom from Christ, in contrast to Peter’s own attempt at a solution. Though our ways seem right to us, we are like Peter in that we also stand desperately in need of the teachings of God’s wisdom and pray for faithfulness in following it.
