Timing

Proverbs wisely reminds us that we cannot even pretend to truly know what tomorrow will bring! Our culture has a serious YOLO narrative going, and there are two sides of it that can be seen through the lens of God’s wisdom. First, don’t forget to be present—enjoy today—soak it in, for you are in this world for a finite amount of time. But, as Christians have learned from the resurrection of Jesus, the best news is that there is life after this life… just wait and see (everlasting life)! The promise of everlasting life ought to change everything about how we live in our practical day to day. What we do in this life does still matter and God is with us now, but we live in the present while rightly anticipating the future glory in the life to come. When you do spend today in the present, be reminded that the way of Jesus did not teach that we have a great life when we have “the best” of everything, but being the “most present” for everything. Instead of merely “living it up” in the worldly sense now because that is all there is… rather, we as Christians actually “live it up” in faith and trust with an amazing hope of everlasting life with Christ in eternity and the resurrection to come.
