In The Beginning

It all started by inviting the community to worship in a new church that has 2000 years of experience. From twenty people gathering in John and Sally Hamilton’s home, to over 2000 visitors each weekend, over the last 40 years, God has done amazing things with St. Andrew. As we take this season to remember all that came before us, we’ll do so knowing one thing… God’s not done yet.

Commemorate

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of St. Andrew, thousands of origami doves and cardinals will soar through the sacred spaces of our sanctuary, Hasley Chapel, and Smith Worship Center. Beginning now thru late August, the origami artists will be cutting the paper, then folding and creating by hand, each of the over 2400 cardinals and doves that will ultimately fly in our sacred spaces. They will be flown here folded, then each one will again be unfolded by hand for the next step. Each bird will be hand-tied to large nets set over the pews/chairs, then hoisted to the ceiling where they will soar in flocks during the art installation. St. Andrew will be only the 4th church in the country for such an art installation, and the first with cardinals. We will be the first church in the southwestern United States and anticipate many visitors to our campus to view “Soar.” The birds will fly from September 2026 through mid-January 2027.

You may sponsor a bird in honor or memory of someone special. Be it a small group leader, favorite preschool teacher, or someone who’s helped you along your faith journey, this is an opportunity to celebrate all that God has done for your family. The sponsorship donation amount is $125 per bird with no limit to the number of birds you can sponsor. Each sponsorship supports a bird as part of the overall display, but birds will not be individually identified or assigned.

The deadline to be included in the commemorative keepsake has passed, but a limited number of birds are still available to be sponsored. Dedications for these birds will be listed in an insert to the commemorative keepsake later this winter.
