God Remembers

To understand the story of the Exodus, we must first set the scene. In the book of Genesis, we learn that God has chosen a people, through a covenant made with Abraham. God promises that he will bless Abraham with land, descendants, and a great name. He will be their God and they will be his people. Abraham’s grandson Jacob is given a name: Israel, and so the people of this family become “Israelites”. Our series picks up at the ending of Genesis and beginning of Exodus — when we learn that the Israelites have moved to Egypt, where became enslaved by the Egyptian ruler Pharaoh. In their misery, they cry out to God… and God hears them and remembers his promise.
This Old Testament story is one that the Jews of Jesus’ day knew well. The ministry that Jesus brings, is not one contradicting the Old Testament law, but rather a ministry of fulfillment of the prophets, law, and new covenants that he will introduce. This series will spend connecting the dots between the Exodus story as the key salvation story of the Jewish faith and the new salvation that comes through Jesus Christ.
