Burning Bush and Giving of God’s Name

It is important that we have been given God’s name… because names are essential to relationships! Calling upon the name of the Lord is a key theme of scripture and it all started with Moses asking for God’s name at the burning bush. One day, when Moses was walking, he saw a bush ignite with flames but not be consumed. This seemingly impossible sight endeared him and as he neared, he heard his name called out. God knows our names and every detail about us because we are his creation. But the journey of our faith
life means that we are constantly learning more of who God is and his character so that we can live in better relationship with God. During the conversation at the burning bush, God gives Moses insight into his plan to rescue his people from persecution — by employing Moses to tell Pharaoh to let God’s people go. What is the name of God who is sending Moses on his behalf? God’s name is “I AM” and this follows through in the Gospels with Jesus’ “I AM” teachings. God will be who God will be.
