What is Beacon of Light?

Beacon of Light was established in 2021 as a ministry of St. Andrew with the mission of delivering proactive, faith-based mental health programming and support to the St. Andrew congregation and the surrounding community.

We understand that seeking support from your church for various challenges is important. However, discussing mental health struggles—whether your own or a loved one’s—hasn’t always been easy. Beacon of Light is here to foster a culture of grace, care, and compassion, while also raising awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

Beacon of Light offers programming and educational resources across a variety of ministries, tailored to church members of all ages and life stages. Counseling services

Through a partnership with The Center for Integrative Counseling, Beacon of Light offers both in-person and virtual outpatient counseling services. These services are provided by fully licensed professional counselors and are scheduled through The Center’s admissions team.

You do not need to be a member of St. Andrew to receive counseling services through Beacon of Light; everyone is welcome. While all clinicians providing services are Christian, they serve people of all faiths and beliefs.

Counseling services are covered in-network by most major health insurance plans with self-pay options also available. The counseling office is located across the street from the church at 5700 W. Plano Parkway, Suite 1600.

Hope Squad

Hope Squad is a nationally recognized suicide prevention program for youth that trains students to recognize signs of mental illness and suicide within their peers and lead them to help.

Beacon of Light has brought this valuable program to our St. Andrew student ministry. We have several peer-nominated middle and high school students, acting as Hope Squad Ambassadors, who are trained to provide suicide awareness and intervention under the guidance of trained adult advisors.

Beacon of Light periodically offers training and seminars on various mental wellness topics to St. Andrew members and the community. Currently, Beacon of Light is providing quarterly presentations on “Purposeful Parenting: Raising Resilient Kids” on Sunday mornings at St. Andrew.

First-Time Mom’s Group

In collaboration with the adult ministries at St. Andrew Methodist, Beacon of Light offers a group for first-time moms and their babies throughout the year.  This 8-week program provides new moms with opportunities to socialize, learn, and build lasting relationships.

Beyond St. Andrew

While Beacon of Light exists as a mental health ministry at St. Andrew, we are so much more.  Beacon of Light’s greater mission and purpose is to offer Christ-centered, clinically based training and tools to all churches to proactively address the mental health needs of their congregations.

The foundation of Beacon of Light is our proprietary mental health training library covering a wide array of topics. Courses are rooted in science and Biblical truths designed to educate and train clergy and lay leadership on how to identify, triage, and manage mental health challenges. Additionally, we offer resources in the way of podcasts, blogs, quick reference guides, and consulting services.

We are currently inviting churches to join us as a Beacon of Light partner. Our vision is to equip churches across America to create a mentally healthy congregation with a culture of grace, care and compassion. We believe every church should be a sanctuary so that people can find a way to a heathier life including offering hope and light to even those in despair or moments of darkness.
