Prom Closet, established by the Women of St. Andrew, was created to offer a special shopping experience for young ladies who may not be able to afford a prom dress due to financial constraints. The closet provides free prom dresses (sizes 0-30) and accessories like jewelry, shoes, and handbags. With thousands of dresses to choose from, there’s something here for everyone!

On behalf of the St. Andrew Methodist Women, we want to express our sincere gratitude to all prom closet donors and volunteers whose commitment and many hours of hard work helped make dreams come true for our 2025 prom closet shoppers. We welcomed 1,320 shoppers to our campus last year and hope this year's prom is everything each shopper has hoped for and more!

What To Do?

Girls from ANYWHERE in need of a prom dress are invited to come select a dress and accessories – all at no cost.

For shoppers, appointments are required to improve the overall experience and minimize wait times. Online registration for shoppers and volunteers will begin January 26, 2026. Please check back for details. Each shopper must be present to select her own dress and accessories and may have one guest, age 16 or older. A volunteer will assist each girl throughout the process, and there will be 40 shopping spots per 90-minute time slot.

Donations

All donations may be dropped off at St. Andrew, 1401 Mira Vista Blvd., just inside the church’s north entry doors on a designated dress rack. For the north entrance, look for the covered walkway and sign on the building. Drop Off times include:
Monday – Thursday | 8:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. , Saturdays | 9:00 a.m.-noon in North Lobby.

St. Andrew Prom Closet, run by the Women of St. Andrew, celebrated its 17th year, Feb. 24 - March 7, 2026! Prom Closet provides donated dresses, sizes 0-30, as well as accessories such as jewelry, shoes, handbags, and wraps to high school girls for prom– all at NO COST. Organizers estimate more than 4,000 dresses were available when Prom Closet 2025 opened Feb. 18. Requirements for shoppers: each girl must sign up online for an appointment at www.standrewmethodist.org/promcloset; each girl must be in high school and must be present to shop for her own dress; and each girl is allowed to bring ONE guest, age 16 or older with them. A personal shopper volunteer assists each girl throughout the process, and there are 40 shopping slots per each 90-minute time frame.

This is open to any high school girl from ANYWHERE. If you live outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area, you can still come! Over the years, Prom Closet has welcomed girls from across Texas as well as Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma. Additionally, exchange students from Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Thailand have come to Prom Closet. Girls must sign up for an appointment time online.

Prom Closet was created to provide a unique shopping experience for young ladies who, because of finances, would be unable to attend prom. Prom Closet organizers and volunteers confirm that not only is the need great, but the impact the dress makes on the girl and her family is immeasurable.

The room is set up like a boutique. Each girl checks in for her appointment and is greeted by a personal shopper who helps her find dress racks with her size. Once she has selected her dress, she may try it on in one of 40 dressing rooms. Then she visits the boutique to look for jewelry, shoes, a handbag, and a wrap.

Community and church members, businesses, organizations, and local groups donate dresses, shoes, wraps, jewelry, handbags for this annual event. Some dresses have never been worn.

The first year, Prom Closet provided 35 dresses to local high school girls. In 2025 1,320 girls, from 322 schools and 110 school districts received dresses and accessories, all donated by community members, local groups, corporations, and businesses.

Yes. Prom Closet relies on volunteers for various roles of all levels of physical capability, including check-in desk and check-out desk, personal shoppers, dressing room assistants, and set-up and tear-down crew members. Volunteers for the shopping days must be adults. All adult volunteers must complete a background check. Volunteer sign-ups will begin on January 26. Upon registration you will receive an email within 24-48 hours asking you to complete the background check.

Prom Closet first began in 2009 when the Women of St. Andrew in Plano were searching for an idea for their yearly mission project. The daughter of one of the group’s leaders worked for a local school district. She had noticed a huge need for girls to acquire prom attire so they could attend their senior proms. The idea of providing a unique shopping experience for young ladies who because of finances would be unable to attend prom was presented to the group, and all agreed to move forward with Prom Closet. The program, which remains a service of the Women of St. Andrew, also depends on many additional volunteers from the community. Each year, approximately 500 volunteers assist with Prom Closet serving in a variety of areas. Prom Closet organizers and volunteers confirm that not only is the need great, but the impact the dress makes on the girl and her family is immeasurable.

Stories of Hope

On the first day of Prom Closet this year, we heard from a girl who lost her father weeks ago and found her dress here. When she was told she could go pick out jewelry and other accessories, she said, “Instead of wearing a piece of jewelry, I plan to wear my dad’s necktie.”

Heartfelt Thanks

The Methodist Children’s Home in Waco comes each year, and Student Event Coordinator Ashley Kendrick forwarded this note: “I just wanted to thank you and the rest of the staff who organized this year’s Prom Closet event! Our girls had so much fun, and we greatly appreciate the opportunity to attend such a fun event! It was very evident that a lot of time and energy was invested in the event, and we were blown away by the organization and welcoming presence from the staff- THANK YOU SO MUCH for reaching out and inviting us!”

Feeling Beautiful

Each year, First Sgt. Charles Paige of the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School JROTC drives girls to the Prom Closet to shop for the military ball. In 2019 he brought over 38. He says it energizes him as a teacher and that it’s not just a job for him, it’s a commitment. He said the Prom Closet has had a major impact on motivating their cadets to attend the ball. Each year the girls tell him: “The church’s Prom Closet makes everyone feel pretty – even if for one night. It is fun to shop for dresses without a price.”

Travel Diaries

Alexis Taylor traveled from Waco to select her dress. She said she chose the first one she put on and was grateful for the Prom Closet because it shows that people care for her and are looking out for her. It also helps her mother so she won’t have to spend a lot of money on her for prom.

International Smiles

We had shoppers from as far away as Germany and Switzerland. The two exchange students had only heard of prom in the movies before they came to the United States and were excited to each find a dress and experience prom. They both selected the first dress they tried on and were all smiles as they headed over to look at jewelry, shoes, and purses.
