Memorial Services

When a death has occurred, our pastors and staff would be honored to hold the memorial service here at the church, at the funeral home or graveside depending on the family’s decision. Christ is our hope for eternal life and we offer this hope to the surviving family and friends that their beloved is now in God’s eternal charge.

Planning a Memorial Service

We know that planning the details of a memorial service can be overwhelming, and we would like to assist you in any way we can. As Christians, we grieve as those who have a unique hope in the Risen Christ, thus empowering us to mark the occasion of death as a time in which the hope of the Gospel is reaffirmed with joy and peace. A Methodist service acknowledges this hope and offers family and friends the opportunity to remember a loved one’s life and offer them into God’s care. The service should be a time to celebrate the wonderful gift God gave to us in our relationship with the deceased.

The properly planned service can be a benediction and a comfort to us, as well as a witness to our faith. Please know we are here for you and welcome the opportunity to be of assistance to you and your family. If you have questions regarding memorial service planning, please contact Defae Weaver or call 214-291-8084.

Good Shepherd Meditation Garden

The Good Shepherd Meditation Garden is a serene place for contemplation and a special place to gather for celebration and reflection. The Columbarium is located within the Good Shepherd Meditation Garden and consists of a series of granite walls that list the names of our dear departed family and friends on the front of each niche where urns bearing their ashes are stored. As cremation has increasingly become a more popular option at the end of life, the Columbarium allows congregation members to remain and be cared for at their church home in perpetuity.

A Prayer Labyrinth is located within the Good Shepherd Meditation Garden. The Prayer Labyrinth is a replica of an ancient labyrinth constructed in the stone floor of European cathedrals. Medieval Christians visited these labyrinths as an alternative to taking the hazardous pilgrimage to Jerusalem to walk “in the footsteps of Christ.”

St. Andrew Columbarium

A Columbarium by definition is an area designated for the burial of cremated remains (cremains). The cremains are stored (inurned) in niches. Cremation is a simple and dignified inexpensive form of burial. For those persons who are Christian, it seems appropriate to provide a burial place for their ashes in a beautiful area near the church they have attended. To have access to a loved one’s burial place at any time is a great comfort to family and friends of the deceased. The name “columbarium” is derived from the Latin word Columba, which means dove, the symbol of God’s Spirit and peace. For rules and regulations, please email columbarium@standrewmethodist.org.

If you would like more information about purchasing a niche in the Columbarium, or if you have any questions, please contact Defae Weaver or call 214-291-8084.
