9:30 AM Traditional - The Underdog: David and Goliath

From Series: "Faithful: A David Series"

Time and time again, we can see the span of human frailty in the stories of Israelite people. And if we are honest, we recognize many of these same features in ourselves. The human condition since Genesis 3 has revealed the imperfect nature of humanity—we are tainted by sin. It is no surprise then, that throughout the biblical narrative of Samuel, we see this rear its ugly head. Despite God’s rescue of the Israelites from captivity in Egypt, the people still complained and were prone to lose faith in YHWH. They look around and want what others have. How typical of us humans. In this story, they want a king to lead them (in many ways reflecting a lack of trust God). God gives them a king… but as a parent might respond to their grown child—God is quite ready for them to start ‘acting their age’.
